How to choose the right Life Coach?

Well, let’s start by defining what a Life Coach is!

A life coach is a type of wellness professional who assists people in making positive changes in their lives in order to achieve their goals. They work with their clients to improve their relationships, careers, and daily lives.

Thinking about a Life Coach, most people confuse it with a therapist. Coaching and therapy are 2 different practices, that have distinct roles and serve unique purposes. It is fundamental to understand the difference, in order for you to know when to consult a coach and when to consult a therapist:

The Therapist:

1. Works with the client on his past experiences and traumas in order to help him understand what is blocking him/her at the present moment.

2. treat mood disorders, anxiety disorders, addiction, or any other mental health condition.

The Coach:

1. Works with the client on his present situation and provides him with a framework that allows him to project himself in the future, by defining objectives and overcoming obstacles and designing an action plan towards the targeted situation.

2. Cannot treat mental health condition.

This being clarified, now let’s look at the Role of a Life Coach?

Life coaches can help you:

1. Clarify your goals,

2. Identify the obstacles that are holding you back or slowing your progress, and

3. Plan strategies to overcome each obstacle.

You would ask me; how do they do that? Life coaches are formed to target 3 areas in you to enable you to achieve a lasting change:

1. Your competencies

2. Your unique talents

3. Your strengths

You want probably to ask me how would you know when you need to consult a Life Coach. The answer is pretty simple:

WHENEVER YOU FEEL CONFUSED, PRESSURED, IRRITATED, STUCK IN YOUR LIFE!

But to give a clearer idea, you need to consult a Life Coach when you experience on of the below criteria:

  • Frequent irritability

  • High levels of stress and/or anxiety

  • Inability to break bad habits

  • Lack of fulfilment in your social life

  • Persistent feeling of dissatisfaction at work

  • Sense of blocked creativity

Great, now let’s tackle the question of how you can find the RIGHT COACH FOR YOU!

Many people hire life coaches to help them navigate major life changes, such as starting a new career, coming back from maternity period, marriage, divorce... Some people even seek out life coaches simply to help them learn how to let go, how live happier, or how to find the right work/life balance.

For me there is a rule of thumb infinding the RIGHT COACH for you :

''The good coach is the one who went through, a few years ago, the same situation that you are going through today!''

That’s it for today. I hope that was interesting to read.
