Did you say ''Professional reconversion''?

The desire for a career change can have various reasons. Especially nowadays, many people are threatened with losing their jobs due to digitalization and the economic crisis.

The idea of starting a new career inevitably raises a series of questions that we must answer in order to be successful:

  • What do I want to do and what am I particularly good at?

  • What fills me and what gives me pleasure?

  • What are my goals and priorities in life, and how do they align with my career change plan?

  • Would I rather be an employee or an entrepreneur?

  • What if I make the wrong decision?

  • What if I fail?

What is the difference between reorientation, reconversion and professional transition?

  • Professional reorientation:

    • "Give a new direction to his career"

    • Often generated either by an external imperative (unemployment, dismissal, closure, business sector at half mast, etc.), or by an internal imperative (dream, self-realization, malaise, fed up, burn-out, disability, …), or both.

  • Professional reconversion:

    • A change of activity/career path

    • Consists of mourning the old world, coming back to yourself to immerse yourself in it, find other motivation and build your project.

    • Causes transformations of a profound nature which in turn lead to a radical modification of the environment.

  • Professional transition:

    • All the reorientations and professional reconversions in the life of a person

    • Like a PALMARES.

Who is affected by professional reconversion?

It concerns people who:

  • Have already lost their job or are at risk of losing it

  • Are recovering from a burnout and now want to approach their professional life differently

  • Are in crisis or feeling stuck and feel the need to change something

  • Finally want to unleash their full potential in their career

  • Are considering a career change, but don't know what to do

  • Finally want to find their vocation and their passion and follow them

  • Want to live a happier and more satisfying life

A career change is a big challenge at any age!

Whether it's changing careers at 40 when we have a family and a loan to pay off or at 50 when we already feel too old to start something new and think it would be far too risky.

The professional reconversion process:

The 3 types of professional reconversion:

Vertical conversion:

  • This type of reconversion involves moving up the career ladder in your current field.

  • For example, a software engineer can become a software architect or a project manager.

How do I know which type of professional reconversion is right for me?

If you're happy with your current field but want to move up the career ladder, vertical reconversion might be a good option for you.

Horizontal conversion:

  • This type of reconversion involves moving to another field related to your current field.

  • For example, a marketing manager can become a product manager or a business analyst.

How do I know which type of professional reconversion is right for me?

If you are looking for a new challenge or want to work in a different industry, horizontal reconversion might be a better choice.

Complete conversion:

  • This type of reconversion involves moving to a completely different field that is unrelated to your current field.

  • For example, a teacher can become a nurse or a social worker

How do I know which type of professional reconversion is right for me?

If you are unhappy with your current career and want to start over in a completely new field, then a full career change might be the right option for you.

How to assess the risk you take during a professional reconversion?

1. Consider your financial situation

  • Will you need to take out loans to pay for your education or training?

  • Will you need a pay cut when you start your new job?

2. Consider your skills and experience

3. Research the job market

4. Talk to people in the field

5. Find a mentor/coach

6. Volunteer

7. Start small

8. Don't give up on your dreams
